Putting Beauty to the Test: A Zest Case Study

When an up-and-coming beauty brand (i-BRATE) approached us, they had a clear goal to get their product advertised on TV. But to make it onto our screens, they needed something more than just a great product. They needed proof of the results for Clearcast approval.

Clearcast guidelines are precise: products must be tested by a set number of real people, with results gathered through verified methods. Meeting those requirements takes more than numbers, it takes a well-designed testing process that’s both rigorous and authentic.

That’s where Zest came in.

We created a tailored, end to end, in-person product test designed to meet Clearcast standards while giving the brand valuable insight into how their product performed in real life. Working with the i-BRATE designer (Gini) and her team, we set up a session at White Rooms in St Albans, the perfect setting for hands-on demonstrations and immediate feedback.

Participants were invited to experience the product first-hand. After the demonstration, they completed a short survey to record their initial impressions and visible effects. Then, a follow-up survey the next day captured how those effects lasted over time.

The result? A confident, data-backed story the brand could take straight to QVC, and a testing experience that reflected the quality and attention to detail at the heart of their product.

What This Says About Zest

Regulatory research asks something different of a fieldwork partner. The margin for error is smaller, the documentation requirements are stricter, and the stakes, in this case, a brand’s route to TV advertising – are very real.

Zest delivered a process that was precise enough to satisfy Clearcast’s standards and smooth enough that i-BRATE could focus on what mattered: understanding how their product performed with real people. When the brief has consequences beyond the research itself, the quality of the fieldwork behind it matters more than ever.
